Treatment of paronychia on the hand usually has several methods.
In the early stage, when it's not severe, warm soaks can be very helpful. Soaking the affected finger in warm water with a little salt added several times a day can relieve pain and reduce inflammation. This helps to soften the skin and drain any pus that might have formed.
Topical antibiotics are also commonly used. Antibiotic ointments such as bacitracin can be applied to the affected area to fight against bacteria and prevent infection from getting worse.
If the paronychia is severe and there is a lot of pus, a minor surgical procedure might be necessary. A doctor can make a small incision to drain the pus and clean the infected area thoroughly. After that, proper dressing and continued antibiotic treatment are usually required to ensure complete recovery.
