Genital herpes is not easy to cure completely.
Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus. Antiviral medications like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir can effectively control and shorten the duration of outbreaks. These drugs can reduce symptoms such as pain, itching and the formation of blisters.
However, the virus remains dormant in the nerve cells and can reactivate, leading to recurrent outbreaks. The frequency of recurrence varies from person to person and is affected by factors such as a person's immune function and stress level. Although treatments can manage symptoms well during outbreaks and reduce the frequency of recurrence to some extent, there is currently no way to completely eliminate the virus from the body and achieve a permanent cure.
